At a summit in 2011 (Vibrant Cities & Urban Forests), 25 visionary leaders from multiple sectors put forth a set of integrated and collaborative recommendations framing urban forestry as a solution to many urban issues and inspiring communities across America to action.
In 2012, the Sustainable Urban Forests Coalition (SUFC), a national, multi-disciplinary network of green community advocates, accepted a challenge to catalyze action around the recommendations under the banner of Vibrant Communities: Trees Are the Key.
In 2013, SUFC unveiled an open-source Trees Are the Key communications platform and toolkit to bring its partners and allies together around a common purpose: to raise awareness about the Vibrant Cities recommendations and the critical role urban forests play in growing and maintaining healthy, resilient, equitable and vibrant communities.
